SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) reports that a Western Sydney Census Committee have launched a survey to count Armenian-Australian residents in Western Sydney, while creating awareness of the importance of the census and its valuable statistics.
"The census is the first of its kind," said the committee's Garbis Kolokossian. "It counts our population and households, providing the information necessary to identify the breadth of our community to local, state and federal governments, among other authorities who sometimes undervalue our influence."
It also assists in advocating for vital programs — impacting housing, education, transportation, employment, health care and public policy relating specifically to the Armenian-Australian community in Western Sydney.
"Ultimately, the success of the census depends on everyone’s participation," said Kolokossian. "Our committee depends on cross-sector collaborations with organisations and individuals to ensure people participate."
The Armenian National Committee of Australia welcomed this initiative, stating "tabulating our community is beneficial for all involved".
"We encourage broad participation in this welcome process from a committee that is formed by some of the most influential Armenian-Australian organisations leadings our Western Sydney community," said ANC-AU Executive Director, Haig Kayserian.
