MELBOURNE: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) has announced that Lucy Kirakosian as the recipient of the 2024 ANC-AU Internship Program's Hagop Kortian Scholarship.
Kirakosian, who is in the process of completing a Bachelor of Law (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts majoring in International Relations at Monash University, participated in the 2023 ANC-AU Youth Advocates program and joined the Armenian National Committee of Australia - Melbourne Branch earlier this year before applying for the Hagop Kortian Scholarship.
As part of the scholarship, Kirakosian has already completed a remote three-month internship with the Armenian National Committee of Australia's head office, gaining hands-on experience in advocacy and community engagement.
In coming days, Kirakosian will embark on a three-month internship with a Victorian state parliamentarian facilitated by the Armenian National Committee of Australia, providing her with invaluable insights into public policy and the world of Victorian politics.
The Hagop Kortian Scholarship was established in 2018 to honour the memory of Mr. Hagop Kortian, a founding force of Hai Tad in Australia who dedicated his life to the betterment of our community and cause. This scholarship aims to empower young Armenian-Australian leaders like Kirakosian with the necessary tools and experiences to become future leaders.
Lucy Kirakosian, who is the first successful recipient from Victoria expressed her gratitude to the Kortian family and enthusiasm for the next stage of the scholarship.
She said, "It has been an honour to work alongside experienced professionals in the ANC-AU National Office and on the organisation’s Board. I’m thrilled to now take on the second stage of this scholarship within the Victorian Parliament. This is an invaluable opportunity to work directly in the realm of public policy, and I look forward to applying my skills in such an inspiring environment. I’m grateful to the Kortian family and ANC-AU for making this journey possible.”
The ANC-AU Internship Program's "Hagop Kortian Scholarship" was established in 2018 as part of broader #ANCAUoutreach initiatives. The ANC-AU Internship Program's Hagop Kortian Scholarship covers the successful applicant's costs during their placement, including transport, travel, accommodation and associated expenses.
