SYDNEY: The
Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) has announced Tristan Manwaring as the successful recipient of the 2023 Hagop Kortian Scholarship, which is part of the ANC-AU Intern Program. He will begin a three-month internship at the office of the peak public affairs body of the Armenian-Australian community prior to receiving frontline work experience in the office of a Federal parliamentarian.
The young Armenian-Australian was a participant of the 2022 ANC-AU Youth Advocates program, and recently graduated from the University of Wollongong with a Bachelor of Arts (With Distinction), majoring in International Relations. Manwaring was selected by the ANC-AU and approved by the Kortian family as the 2023 scholarship recipient.
The annual scholarship recognises exceptional individuals who have displayed outstanding leadership potential and a strong commitment to advancing the Armenian-Australian community's interests, by covering their costs during placement with a Federal parliamentarian, including transport, travel, accommodation and associated expenses.
As part of the Hagop Kortian Scholarship, Manwaring will embark on a three-month internship at the Armenian National Committee of Australia's head office, before they help place him in the offices of a Federal MP to gain invaluable work experience. This experience aims to provide a broader understanding of the political landscape, enable applicants to build relationships with influential decision-makers, and contribute to the advancement of Armenian-Australian issues on the public stage.
The Hagop Kortian Scholarship was established to honour the memory of Mr. Hagop Kortian, a founding force of Hai Tad in Australia who dedicated his life to the betterment of our community and cause. This scholarship seeks to empower young individuals with the necessary tools and experiences to become future leaders and has been generously extended for an additional five years.
"I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Kortian family and the Armenian National Committee of Australia for providing me with this incredible opportunity. I'm looking forward to getting some hands-on experience and doing my part to help serve the interests of the Armenian-Australian community," Manwaring said.
ANC-AU Executive Director Michael Kolokossian congratulated Manwaring on his successful application and thanked the Kortian family for their ongoing support.
“Tristan’s talent was on display at the 2022 ANC-AU Youth Advocates program. He is confident, articulate and eager to take the next step in his career, and we are proud to be facilitating this unique opportunity through Hai Tad. Congratulations Tristan.”
“We wish to thank the Kortian family for agreeing to extend the ANC-AU Internship Program's Hagop Kortian Scholarship for a further five years, providing the ANC-AU with the ability to invest further in our community’s youth and facilitate their direct involvement in the world of politics.”
