SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) has announced that its 2022 Annual Gala will be held on Saturday, 3rd December at the Shangri-La Sydney.
This celebratory evening will host international guests, State and Federal parliamentarians, as well as honourees from Australian public life. The night will also feature an array of cultural and artistic entertainment acts throughout the evening.
“The Armenian National Committee of Australia’s Gala is the prime, celebratory evening that unifies individuals from public and private life with the Armenian-Australian community. We look forward to announcing attending parliamentarians and honourees in forthcoming weeks,” said ANC-AU Executive Director, Michael Kolokossian.
“It is also a momentous occasion for our community to show appreciation for the efforts of prominent figureheads who continue to champion the Armenian cause in Australian public life.”
This year, the Armenian National Committee of Australia will once again present the organisation's distinguished Freedom Award––with past recipients from around the world, including U.S. Senator Robert Manendez, Film Director Terry George, German politician Cem Ozdemir, former New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian and last year's honouree the Hon. Paul Fletcher MP.
On the night, the recipient of the prestigious ANC-AU Armenian-Australian Community’s Friend of the Year award will also be revealed. Past recipients of this honour include Paul Fletcher, Joel Fitzgibbon, Tim Wilson, Trent Zimmerman, Hugh McDermott, Bob Carr, John Alexander, Joe Hockey, Phillip Adams, Jonathan O’Dea, Walt Secord, Michael Atkinson, Professor Colin Tatz and last year’s honouree, former NSW Premier and Federal Senator Kristina Keneally.
The Ben Bagdikian Media Award will also be presented on the evening, recognising an individual who has had the most significant impact raising awareness concerning matters important to Armenian-Australians. Since 2019, the award has been presented to Alan Jones, James Robins and Michael Brissenden in 2021.
