SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) is hosting a community lecture and Q & A event with visiting former Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Dr Arman Tatoyan, this Thursday, 1st December 2022, at 7:30pm at the Willoughby Uniting Church.
Dr Tatoyan will deliver an update on the latest developments along the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and will present a groundbreaking report to the community, following his latest visit to the Gegharkunik, Syunik and Vayotz Dzor provinces prior to visiting Australia.
The address will highlight Azerbaijan's criminal invasion and the humanitarian consequences of Azerbaijan’s illegal provocations against Armenian civilians and the villages along the Armenia-Azerbaijani border.
Attendees will be given the opportunity to participate in a Q&A segment moderated by the ANC-AU National Office, covering all topics from the 2020 Nagorno Karabakh War to Azerbaijan’s latest assaults on Armenia’s internationally-recognised sovereign borders.
“We are very excited to present our community with an intimate opportunity to meet Dr Arman Tatoyan and hear about his latest fact-finding mission in the border provinces affected by Azerbaijan’s latest attacks. This will be sure to provide our community with a better understanding of the current situation and the challenges our compatriots are facing on a daily basis,” added Kolokossian.
Dr Tatoyan served as Armenia's fourth Human Rights Defender between 2016-2022 and was integral in exposing Azerbaijan’s gross human rights violations against the inhabitants of the Republic of Armenia, which significantly increased during his tenure as Ombudsman following the 2020 Artsakh War.
Following his post as Human Rights Defender, Dr Tatoyan established the Centre for Law and Justice ‘Tatoyan’ Foundation, which continues to undertake fact-finding missions across Armenia detailing Azerbaijan’s ongoing violations against Armenian and Artsakh citizens.
Dr Tatoyan has also served as an Ad hoc Judge in the European Court of Human Rights and holds his Master of Laws from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and obtained his LLM and Ph.D. from Yerevan State University, Department of Criminal Procedure and Criminalistics.
Dr Tatoyan is visiting Australia as the international guest of honour for ANC-AU Advocacy Week, which has begun in Canberra and will conclude with the
ANC-AU Annual Gala at the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney on 3rd December 2022.
