CANBERRA: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) is gearing up for the fifth edition of the organisation's Youth Advocates program, scheduled to take place on the 15th and 16th of November 2023 in the nation’s capital city Canberra, reported the peak Armenian-Australian public affairs body.
The program, established in 2018, is a jam-packed two-day crash course in mastering the art of advocacy with the goal of encouraging more young Armenian-Australians to consider a future career in the field of politics and its associated disciplines. ANC-AU Youth Advocates also presents a unique networking opportunity, with participants rubbing shoulders with Australia’s elected political and media leaders.
Spots are filling up quickly, and willing participants are encouraged to register their interest by clicking here.
Since its inception, this has been the organisation's most popular outreach initiative, catering to over 80 participants from across Australia, including Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Canberra, as well as Youth Advocates from New Zealand.
Under the guidance of the ANC-AU National Office and Board, the 2023 Youth Advocate participants will engage in the following activities over the course of two days:
Hands-on Advocacy Workshops;
A Mock Parliamentary Discussion at Parliament House on a topic of national relevance, moderated by MPs;
Sessions at think tanks and media organisations;
Mock Advocacy sessions with Senators and Members of Parliament;
Attendance at Parliamentary Question Time.
“Since its launch, this program has become a gateway for young Armenian-Australians to enter the field of politics, and we are excited to meet the next batch of budding political thinkers from our community,” said ANC-AU Executive Director, Michael Kolokossian - himself an alum of the inaugural ANC-AU Youth Advocates program in 2018.
Danielle Der Bedorissian, who is coordinating the program for the second time, said, “If you are considering a career in politics, media or associated disciplines, apply now. This program is full of engaging hands-on experiences that really help young people understand political processes in Australia, while giving them the tools to advance Armenian-Australian interests.”
