SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC Australia) has announced it will hold the inaugural ANC Australia Advocacy Week this November, with ANC America board member Mr. Raffi Hamparian as its special guest of honour.
ANC Australia Advocacy Week, which will run from 10-16 November, is designed to raise the profile of Armenia and the importance of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide within the wider Australian community.
Hamparian has been invited to headline the week, which will include visits to Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney, where the
ANC Australia Annual Banquet will be held on Friday, 14 November.
New York-born Hamparian is currently a member of the national Board of Directors for the ANCA, which is based in Washington, DC. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the ANCA-Western Region (ANCA-WR).
Over the years, the ANCA National Board has expanded its Washington activities, significantly increasing the power, respect and influence of the Armenian-American community.
Hamparian has also been instrumental in the advancement of House Resolution 106, which was passed by the U.S House Committee on Foreign Affairs in late 2007. The resolution is due for a vote by the full house later this year.
Recently, Hamparian was an outspoken advocate in the effort to block the U.S government’s appointment of Genocide denier Richard Hoagland as U.S Ambassador to Armenia. Then, he was instrumental in voicing the Armenian-American community’s concerns regarding the proper characterisation of the Armenian Genocide by eventual Ambassador, Mary Yovanich.
