SYDNEY: A joint delegation of the Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC Australia) and the Galstaun College Board met with the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure and Planning, Rob Stokes MP to raise issues relating to the Armenian-Australian community.
Stokes, the NSW Member for Pittwater was provided with information relating to Galstaun College, including its student population, facilities and possible expansion, as well as documents relating to broader-based issues of the Armenian Genocide and other Armenian human rights matters.
At the meeting, which was held in his Parliamentary Office, Stokes reaffirmed his support for the Armenian Australian community.
He stated: “If re-elected in March, I look forward to building upon the strong relationship I have established with the NSW Armenian community during this parliamentary term.â€
“My electoral office is just minutes from the Armenian Galstaun College and I welcome the Board to consult with me on any matters concerning the College at any time.â€
ANC Australia Executive Director Varant Meguerditchian spoke for the joint delegation: “Mr Stokes is an ally of the Armenian-Australian community and we are confident that he will continue to provide sound advice to our community in the future.â€
Stokes, whose own grandfather was an Australian soldier held captive as a Prisoner of War by the Ottoman Government during WWI, was particularly familiar and sympathetic to the cause for universal recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide.
