SYDNEY: Former Armenian Ambassador to Canada, His Excellency Ara Papian has been among the most vocal commentators on the Armenia-Turkey Protocols in Yerevan, and will be among six panellists in Sydney on Wednesday 18 November discussing
'Armenia-Turkey Protocols & The Aftermath'.The Panel Discussion, again organised by the Armenian Youth Federation of Australia (AYF Australia), will also include Mr. Varant Meguerditchian (President of Armenian National Committee of Australia), Mr. Sassoon Grigorian (Former Senior Advisor to the Premier of NSW), Mr. Khajaque Kortian (Former Board Member of Armenian National Committee of Australia), Mr. Hratch Loussikian (Representative of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation) and Mr. Kevork-Sarhad Tufenkjian (Chairperson of AYF Australia).
The panel will be held at the Stamford Grand North Ryde Hotel, and mediated by ANC Australia Communications Officer and former Chairperson of AYF Australia, Mr. Haig Kayserian.
Papian will be visiting Sydney as the international guest of honour for
ANC Australia Advocacy Week 2009, which runs between 15-22 November. His activities will include meetings with over 50 legislators in Canberra, and speeches at Parliament House in Canberra, at ANC Australia Day (15 November) and at the
ANC Australia Annual Banquet (20 November).
In recent weeks, Papian has written dozens of open letters and opinion pieces that have exposed the Armenia-Turkey Protocols as failing to comply with international law - a field in which he is an expert. Papian has also continuously brought to the media's attention that the 1919 Treaty of Sevres, mediated by then-U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, does comply with international law and must be the cornerstone of any Armenian-Turkish reconciliation.
Papian is a career diplomat, and it was during his posting as Armenia's Ambassador to Canada that the government of Canada recognised the Armenian Genocide. He currently serves as the head of Yerevan-based non-government organisation specialising in social science, the Modus Vivendi Center.
