SYDNEY: Federal Minister for Financial Services the Hon. Chris Bowen MP was host to a pre-election meeting with the Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC Australia) at his Ministerial Office to address Armenian-Australians issues.
Bowen, who serves the Federal Parliament as the Member for Prospect and is the Australian Labor Party's Election Spokesman, has continually offered his assistance to Armenian-Australians; often making appeals directly to the Australian government on matters raised by the ANC Australia.
At the meeting, Bowen reaffirmed his commitment to support Armenian-Australians.
He said: "The Armenian-Australians of Western Sydney play an integral role in the fabric of Australian society and I pledge to continue addressing their concerns to my parliamentary colleagues."
Since re-election to the House of Representatives in 2007, Bowen has met with ANC Australia on a number of occasions and facilitated a unique exhibition entitled 'Armenia' at Parliament House in Canberra.
The exhibition, which was held during ANC Australia Advocacy Week, attracted more than 40 Federal legislators and covered topics including the Armenian Genocide, the Armenian Relief Fund of Australia, Nagorno Karabakh, the Armenian-Australian community, Armenian trade and Armenian history.
ANC Australia Executive Director Varant Meguerditchian said: "Minister Bowen has consistently provided ANC Australia with sound advice, guidance and support to raise awareness of the Armenian Genocide."
He added: "We look forward to working closely with Minister Bowen in the coming term."
