Brogden first started his career in politics as the Liberal Party’s Member for the Electorate of Pittwater and was elected Leader of the Opposition in 2002 on his 33rd birthday, making Brogden the youngest person to ever lead a major political party in Australia.
Brogden’s passion for mental illness recovery stems from his own suicide attempt which marked a turning point in his life and reframed the public discourse around depression and suicide.
Dr Kareen Mekertichian, who leads the Armenian Professional Network of Australia’s Medical and Allied Health Professional Forum, said, “Having Mr John Brogden, a leading advocate for mental health and suicide prevention, as our keynote speaker will be invaluable for Armenian healthcare professionals. Hearing directly from someone who has faced these challenges and is now championing global awareness in his role as Honorary Chairperson of Lifeline International brings a unique perspective to the critical work we do in our communities."
“Mental health and suicide affect every community, and ours is no exception. We all know someone who has struggled, and we must be equipped to address these issues. Now, more than ever, it’s essential that we support one another and continue this conversation openly and compassionately," added Mekertichian.
The Armenian Professional Network (APN) Australia is a growing network of Armenians in Australia that offers unparalleled opportunities for community connections, professional development and mentoring experiences. The APN believes in the transformative power of the Armenian-Australian community and inclusivity, welcoming individuals of all backgrounds, industries and walks of life.
