SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC Australia) hosted the Australian launch of the acclaimed book “Armenians at the twilight of the Ottoman Era – News Reports from the International Press” written by Father Vahan Ohanian, Vicar-General of the Mkhitarian Congregation at St. Lazzaro, Venice.
This historic publication, which totals over 1,400 pages, provides detailed accounts of press articles in the New York Times (NYT) covering the Armenian Genocide from 1890 to 1914. It is the first such publication which covers NYT in such detail. Ohanian is a leading expert on the Armenian Genocide, and has spent decades researching archives throughout Europe and the United States.
Over 200 members of the community were in attendance on Friday 18th January when Ohanian presented his most recent publication. In addition a feature film produced by Italian film-maker Tito de Luca was screen which showed the history of Mount Ararat.
“We thank Father Ohanian for taking his time to launch his book in Australia. His work is testament to the continued resolve of Armenians to never allow the events of 1915 to be forgotten. This publication will add another strong voice for international recognition of the Armenian Genocide,” remarked ANC Australia Communications Director Mr. Haig Kayserian.
