SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) has welcomed Ms Gisele Kapterian – a former Chief of Staff and Senior Adviser to three Australian Government Ministers – to its National Board.
Ms Kapterian, who is currently the Asia-Pacific Director of Public Sector Strategy at a major multi-national corporation, was most recently in Canberra as Chief of Staff to Australia's Minister for Industry, Innovation and Employment.
Prior to that role, during the Turnbull Administration, Ms Kapterian – who is an international trade lawyer – served as Senior Adviser to Australia's Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment. Her first role in Federal politics was as Adviser to Australia's Minister for Foreign Affairs.
"We are delighted to welcome Ms Gisele Kapterian to our National Board and look forward to benefiting from her considerable experience and skills that she will bring to the Board as we look to aligning Australia on the side of truth and justice on issues concerning the Republic of Artsakh and the Armenian Genocide, as well as expanding bilateral relations between Armenia and Australia," said ANC-AU National Board Chairman, Mr Khajaque Kortian.
Ms Kapterian said she looked forward to contributing to advancing issues of importance to Armenian-Australians.
“The strong connection between Australians and the Armenian people goes back almost as far as the creation of the nation of Australia itself,” Ms Kapterian said. “Our shared values including the inalienable rights and liberties of all peoples, self-determination and fairness, have been values both peoples have fought continuously to protect and for which many sacrifices have been made.”
“I am looking forward to helping strengthen that connection through the work of the Armenian National Committee of Australia, and build on those shared values in advocating for the issues concerning the Republic of Artsakh and the recognition of the Armenian Genocide,” Ms Kapterian added.
The National Board of the Armenian National Committee of Australia now includes Khajaque Kortian, Greg Soghomonian, Vache Kahramanian, Haig Kayserian, Garineh Torossian, Sassoon Grigorian, Gisele Kapterian, Hovig Melkonian, Stephen Abolakian and Hratch Loussikian.
