CANBERRA & SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) has announced that Dr. Arman Tatoyan––the former Human Rights Defender of Armenia and Founder of the Centre for Law and Justice “Tatoyan” Foundation––will be visiting from Yerevan to headline ANC-AU Advocacy Week this November.
ANC-AU Advocacy Week will run from the 28th November to the 3rd December 2022 and will include the highly anticipated ANC-AU Youth Advocates program taking over 20 young Armenian-Australians to Canberra for advocacy workshops and meetings with politicians.
The ANC-AU Annual Gala will complete the week's activities at the Shangri-La Sydney on Saturday, 3rd December 2022, when Dr. Tatoyan will deliver the keynote address as the event's International Guest of Honour.
Dr. Arman Tatoyan served as the fourth Human Rights Ombudsman of Armenia between February 2016 until 2022, and has since established the Centre for Law and Justice “Tatoyan” Foundation tasked with the protection of human rights, social justice and national security, strengthening democracy and the rule of law in Armenia and establishing stronger ties between Armenia, Artsakh and the diaspora to ensure the protection of national values.
As Human Rights Ombudsman, Dr. Tatoyan was integral in exposing Azerbaijan’s gross human rights violations against the inhabitants of the Republics of Armenia and Artsakh, which significantly increased during his tenure as Ombudsman during and following the 2020 Nagorno Karabakh War.
Dr. Tatoyan’s visit to Australia comes at a time of significant shift in narrative from the Australian Government, which has finally acknowledged Azerbaijan’s aggression against Armenia.
"We are delighted that Dr. Arman Tatoyan will be our international guest of honour for this year's annual Armenian National Committee of Australia Advocacy Week," commented ANC-AU Executive Director Michael Kolokossian.
"With Azerbaijan's troops illegally camped inside the sovereign borders of Armenia and refusing to withdraw, the ANC-AU will seek to benefit from Dr. Tatoyan’s powerful voice and on-the-ground experience following his recent visits to the Syunik region, uncovering the Aliyev dictatorship's latest wave of aggression."
"Dr. Tatoyan’s presence will no doubt help progress our advocacy efforts here in Australia," Kolokossian added.
Dr. Tatoyan's keynote address will headline the ANC-AU Annual Gala, which will also host a large number of state and federal parliamentarians, honourees from Australian public life and an array of cultural and artistic entertainment acts throughout the evening.
