Below flyer has been updated.SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC Australia) has announced that Dr Panayiotis Diamadis of the Australian Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies (AIHGS) will present his University of Salzburg Lecture, 'Rafael Lemkin the Children of Anatolia and the 1948 Genocide Convention' in Sydney as part of a lecture series in 2011.
Sponsored in part by ANC Australia Education and Research Unit, Dr Diamadis participated in the '2010 Genocide Seminar' held at the University of Salzburg in Austria, where he presented to international genocide scholars the writings of Rafael Lemkin. His lecture, which compared the treatment of the indigenous Armenians, Hellenes and Assyrians of the Ottoman Empire to the persecution of the Jews during the Shoah, will be presented to Armenian-Australians.
Dr Diamadis, who currently teaches Genocide Studies at Sydney's University of Technology and serves as a Director of the AIHGS, has a particular interest in the relationship between Australia and the Armenian, Hellenic and Assyrian Genocides.
His lecture, which will be held at 7:30pm in the hall of the Armenian Cultural Centre, Willoughby, on Friday, 4 February 2011 will cover much of this research as well.
Commenting on his research, Dr Diamadis said: "I continually discover new material from the early 20th century that brings closer the histories of the Armenian and Australian peoples."
He continued: "This research, coupled with Rafael Lemkin's writings, makes the historic reality of the Armenian Genocide indisputable."
ANC Australia Executive Director Varant Meguerditchian reaffirmed support for the research work undertaken by Dr Diamadis.
"His studies are a fundamental component in the work of the ANC as we struggle for recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Australia," he said.
"We welcome all Armenian-Australians to share Dr Diamadis' findings."
