CANBERRA: The Australian Senate is set to vote on a motion in Parliament today (Wednesday 11th of May), recognising the Armenian Genocide.
Independent Senator Nick Xenophon, a friend of the Armenian-Australian community, will move a motion in the Federal Upper House, calling on the government of Australia to join over 20 countries around the world in formally recognising the Armenian Genocide of 1915.
The motion will also seek to recognise the significant humanitarian efforts by Australians between 1915-1929 as part of the Armenian Relief Fund of Australia aiding survivors of the Armenian Genocide.
Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC Australia) Executive Director Varant Meguerditchian said: "This motion is an opportunity for all Senators to back up their private support of Armenian Genocide recognition with a public vote."
