CANBERRA: The Armenian Government delegation – led by Deputy Prime Minister the Hon. Ararat Mirzoyan – which was to visit Australia later this month has been postponed due to the pending announcement of Parliamentary Elections in the Republic of Armenia.
The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) said that the Armenian Government's decision to postpone the delegation due to pending elections was "a responsible step", and the high-level meetings that were organised – which included a meeting with Australia's Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon. Michael McCormack and several Ministers and Shadow Ministers – will likely take place following upcoming elections in both Armenia and Australia.
"We have thanked the Australian Government representatives and Parliamentarians, who were committed to meeting with the delegation from Armenia, and we are hopeful of reviving these important exchanges once we leapfrog over the upcoming election seasons set to grip both nations," said ANC-AU Executive Director, Haig Kayserian.
ANC-AU Advocacy Week starts in Canberra next week, with
a group of 18 young Armenian-Australians joining the community's peak public affairs body for training and advocacy at Australia's Parliament House (click here for more). It will conclude with the
ANC-AU Annual Banquet, which features International Guest Honouree, Professor Richard Hovannisian at an event that will be presided over by legendary Armenian-Australian newsman, George Donikian (click here for more).
