CANBERRA: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) is excited to announce Anton Sebastian Vassallo has formally begun his duties as an Administrative Assistant at the office of the peak-public affairs body of the over 50,000-strong Armenian-Australian community, becoming the organisation first ever staffer based in the nation's capital, Canberra.
The Brisbane-raised Armenian-Australian moved to Canberra to complete his tertiary education and is currently studying a Bachelor of Law and International Security Studies, with a minor in Middle Eastern and Central Asian studies at the Australian National University.
Vassallo currently serves as a Political Advisor to Ed Cocks, Member of the ACT Legislative Assembly, and has previously undertaken roles as a Federal Campaign Assistant for Trevor Evans MP, former Federal Member for Brisbane, and has interned as an Electorate Officer with Phillip Thompson OAM MP, Federal Member for Herbert.
Since relocating to Canberra, Vassallo has worked closely with members of the ANC-AU Canberra branch, participated in the 2022 ANC-AU Youth Advocates program and as a member of the ACT Young Liberals assisted in the adoption of a motion condemning Azerbaijan’s September 2022 attacks against the sovereign borders of Armenia.
Vassallo will work under the leadership of ANC-AU Executive Director Michael Kolokossian, and in collaboration with the organisation's administrators Noor Chirenian, Danielle Der Bedrossian and Areg Grigorian.
ANC-AU Executive Director Michael Kolokossian said: “Anton Vassallo’s addition means the Armenian National Committee of Australia office will not just be based at our Sydney headquarters, but we will be on the doorsteps of Parliament House, charging up the Hill on every sitting week and at every opportunity with a dedicated staffer in Canberra.”
“We are extremely fortunate to welcome Vassallo who brings with him a wealth of experience to the Hai Tad family. He will join us on the front lines, battling alongside the ANC-AU's passionate administrators advocating for issues of importance to the Armenian-Australian community.”
