STATEMENTOn the night of the 18th June, 2024, the Member for Macnamara, Mr Josh Burns MP’s electorate office, was vandalised by unknown persons, who smashed and graffitied windows and set two fires, one within the office and one outside.
Acts like these are clearly carried out with the intention to threaten and intimidate public figures into withholding their views from policy debates out of concern for the safety of themselves, their families and their staff.
The Armenian National Committee of Australia unequivocally condemns this attack in the strongest possible terms. These attacks have no place in Australian democracy. They seriously undermine the ability of our elected representatives to properly discuss and deal with important issues, particularly those that are controversial.
We call upon the authorities to take all necessary steps to bring those responsible to justice as soon as possible in order to discourage such attacks from taking place again.
