HRANT DINK PROFILE
Hrant Dink, a writer and journalist, was one of the most prominent voices of Turkey's shrinking Armenian community. The 53-year-old editor of Agos was convicted in 2005 for writing about the Armenian Genocide in 1915, a claim denied by the authorities in Ankara. On January 19, 2007, Dink was shot dead outside the newspaper's office in Istanbul. This incident, considered a deliberate attempt to thwart freedom of speech in Turkey, sparked protests within the country and across the world, including Australia.
