CANBERRA: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC Australia) has held meeting with the United States and French embassies to discuss Azerbaijan’s ongoing aggression directed towards the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh.
The Presidents of the French Republic and the United States serve as two of the three co-chairs, along with the Russian Federation, of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group, which has been working on a permanent peace plan between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
ANC Australia’s Executive Director, Vache Kahramanian, met with the representatives of the French and American embassies in Canberra to discuss Azerbaijan’s ongoing aggression in light of the recent shooting down of an Armenian helicopter over the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Kahramanian stressed the importance of ending the false parity in calling on “both parties to exercise restraint” and provided an extensive overview of Azerbaijan’s ongoing aggression including the case of Ramil Safarov, Azerbaijan’s failure to remove snipers along the Line of Contact, the attempted incursions into Nagorno-Karabakh by Azeri forces in August of this year and the recent shooting down of an unarmed transport helicopter.
At the conclusion of the meetings, Kahramanian remarked: “Today Azerbaijan has ensured that a once frozen conflict is now unfrozen and it continues to violate not only the ceasefire agreement of 1994 but also puts the entire region in a dangerous predicament.”
“There can only be a peaceful solution yet Azerbaijan continues to engage in military aggression in full defiance of its international obligations.”
ANC Australia will continue to work with the Australian Government and the Minsk Group embassies to continue to raise Azerbaijan’s ongoing aggression.
