SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia’s (ANC Australia) Honorary Chairman Greg Soghomonian and Executive Director Varant Meguerditchian recently met with an impressive group of young volunteers in Fairfield to discuss the development of ANC Australia activities in Western Sydney.
Conversations at the meeting focused on reaching out to and motivating the 10,000 Armenian-Australians in Sydney’s Western Suburbs in order to increase advocacy efforts in the region.
Fairfield Armenian community leader Ara Boyadjian will guide the ANC Australia volunteers in Sydney’s West to build Armenian community support, increase Armenian political presence, and engage with the local media in an effort to effectively raise Armenian-Australian issues in Western Sydney.
He said: “we will begin to reach out to the Armenian-Australian community through functions, gatherings and film screenings with a view to constructing a solid support base in the region.â€
“Our objective is to harness the collective strength of the Armenian community in Western Sydney and to voice their concerns at the local level.â€
ANC Australia’s meeting in Sydney’s West is part of ANC Australia’s policy to develop grassroots strength at the local regional level, and follows last month’s appointment of
Chris Atamian as ANC Australia Melbourne Representative.
Meguerditchian said: “As a grassroots organisation it is imperative that we have local regional representation in all areas that are populated by Armenian-Australians.â€
Â
“This will ensure that we continue to truly represent our communities throughout Australia.â€
Â
Increased regional representation in Western Sydney and Melbourne paves the way for further expansion of ANC Australia both in Australia and throughout the Asia Pacific region.
