SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC Australia) has congratulated the Hon. Julia Gillard MP on her ascension to Prime Minister of Australia and Federal Leader of the Australian Labour Party.
Ms. Gillard took over from the Hon. Kevin Rudd MP last Thursday, who has moved onto the backbench.
Prime Minister Gillard accepted her new position by stating she was "truly honoured".
Gillard has made history by becoming the first female Prime Minister of Australia. She was sworn in today as the 27th Prime Minister of Australia by the Governor-General, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC.
In a congratulatory letter sent to the newly appointed Prime Minister, ANC Australia's Political Relations Officer Vache Kahramanian wrote: "We congratulate you on your accession to the role of Prime Minister and look forward to working with you in the further advancement of Armenian-Australian issues."
