ANC Australia condemns statement by St Gregory's Armenian School founder
Tuesday, 01 February 2011
SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC Australia) has strongly condemned a media statement by St Gregory's Armenian School founder Michael Ghougassian, where he refers to the Armenian Genocide as a reason for not signing off the school's mortgage.
In a Rouse Hill Times article published last week, Ghougassian implies that he will defy the law and not sign the required discharge in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
The article quotes Ghougassian as stating: "I owe it to all the souls who died for my survival and the Christian faith being upheld, not to sign the discharge of mortgage."
The ANC Australia statement says: "ANC Australia strongly condemns the statement made by Mr Michael Ghougassian to the Rouse Hill Times as an opportunistic attempt to win favour and public sentiment by associating his own personal legal issues with the unrelated issue of the Armenian Genocide."
