SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC Australia) has announced the appointments of Hovig Melkonian (Melbourne) and Garbis Kolokossian (Western Sydney) to the organisation's National Board.
In addition to this, the Armenian-Australian community's peak public affairs body announced that Garineh Torossian and Lilit Mouradian will join its staff as Interns.
This expansion to the ANC Australia team comes after a change in leadership earlier this year, after which the Board undertook a strategic review of its activities and future plans.
ANC Australia Honorary Chairman Greg Soghomonian explained the appointments of Melkonian and Kolokossian: "The addition of these two highly motivated young professionals is further testament to ANC Australia’s succession planning and our ability to rally the youth of our community around this vibrant organization."
Melkonian, who is a student of engineering, brings many years of active leadership through his community involvement while Kolokossian is a graduate of law working in industry.
"I am deeply honoured to be appointed to the ANC Australia Board and look forward to expanding the activities of this very important organization," commented Melkonian.
Kolokossian added: "The Armenian National Committee of Australia has been a driving force in our community and I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Board of such an organidation."
ANC Australia Executive Director Vache Kahramanian welcomed the new appointees to the board.
"These new appointments are further evidence that the Armenian-Australian community has a high calibre of young, dedicated individuals who are ready to tackle the most important challenges facing our community," he said.
On the appointment of Interns Torossian and Mouradian, who both bring diverse experience in their studies of public relations, journalism, law and international relations, Kahramanian added: "The internship program will create the leaders of tomorrow by allowing them to work directly with ANC Australia and learn the inner workings of this highly-motivated and results-driven team."
"I encourage all young Armenians who wish to intern with ANC Australia to contact our office as there are several opportunities avaliable."
