SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia’s Armenian Family Day drew record numbers of around 1,000 at Ryde Park on Sunday, as the community’s peak public affairs body launched into Advocacy Week.
Community organisations, including Homenetmen, Hamazkaine, Galstaun College, the Armenian Relief Society and the Armenian Youth Federation were there in force, with their respective representatives endorsing ANC Australia and its activities from the stage.
International Guest of Honour Ken Hachikian, the Chairman of ANC in America, was also present with his wife Gloria, along with Federal Member for Bennelong John Alexander, NSW Member for Ryde Victor Dominello, NSW Member for Willoughby Gladys Berejiklian, Mayor of Ryde Artin Etmekdjian and Ryde Councillor Sarkis Yedelian.
Entertainment on stage was provided by leading community bands, including Karnig & Hovik and Ohaness Ohanessian. Galstaun College students also performed, while Homenetmen Scouts marched.
"This was the biggest-ever Armenian Family Day that ANC Australia has held and we thank the community for their support as we kick off the fourth annual ANC Australia Advocacy Week," said Community Relations Officer, Stephen Abolakian.
ANC Australia Advocacy Week continues Monday and Tuesday, with a delegation including Hachikian holding meetings with legislators in Canberra.
