SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) has announced that the Kortian Family has agreed to extend their sponsored ANC-AU Internship Program's Hagop Kortian Scholarship for a further five years.
The ANC-AU Internship Program, part of broader #ANCAUoutreach initiatives, provides work experience opportunities for young Armenian-Australians at the office of the peak public affairs body of the Armenian-Australian community. The Internship Program also helps facilitate the placement of Armenian-Australian students into the offices of Members of Parliament, Senators, government departments, think-tanks and media centres in Canberra and within state capitals across the country, and serves to facilitate greater involvement of young Armenian-Australians in the Australian political process.
The ANC-AU Internship Program's Hagop Kortian Scholarship is a long-term commitment from the family of one of the founding forces of Hai Tad in Australia and a founding member of ANC-AU, Mr. Hagop Kortian. Speaking on behalf of the extended Kortian Family, Dr Tro Kortian said, “We have been very impressed with the ANC-AU Internship Program as well as its Youth Advocate Program and the outstanding young Armenian-Australian candidates and participants."
“We are proud to have supported and to continue to support, these important programs, which help prepare the next generation of Hai Tad advocates and activists.”
He added, “We believe that the Hagop Kortian Scholarship of the ANC-AU Internship Program will continue to be a fitting legacy and investment into the future of Hai Tad."
The annual Scholarship of $10,000 is funded by the proceeds of the Hagop and Makrouhy Kortian Endowment Fund established in their honour by their sons and their families.
ANC-AU, along with the extended Kortian family, announced the renewal for a further five years of the ANC-AU Internship Program's Hagop Kortian Scholarship on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Mr Kortian’s passing (darelitz) which was marked by a memorial (hokehankist) that took place on Sunday, 19 February 2023.
Armenian National Committee of Australia Executive Director Michael Kolokossian said, “We are pleased to invite applicants interested in the ANC-AU Internship Program’s Hagop Kortian Scholarship, which is designed to assist with costs of applicants as they find unpaid and/or paid positions in the offices of Members of Parliament, Senators, government departments, think-tanks and media centres in Canberra and within state capitals across the country.”
“We thank the Kortian family for their ongoing support and commitment towards raising a new generation of Hai Tad advocates who will continue to amplify the voices of our community in their respective fields of work,” added Kolokossian.
