SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia was out in force at the 39th Annual Navasartian Games signing up young Armenian-Australians to the Australian electoral role, marking the official start of its ‘Enrol to Vote’ Campaign.
Preaching the benefits of voting, the peak public affairs committee of the community was able to reach out to an impressive 153 young Armenian-Australians between the ages of 17 and 21.
“This is a great result and a solid start for the Enrol to Vote Campaign; 153 more voices have now been added to the Armenian vote,†said Mr. Raymond Nazloomian, ANC Australia’s Political Relations Officer.
Earlier in the week, Hamazkaine Arshak & Sophie Galstaun School was targeted with all senior students being signed up to vote.
The activities at the Navasartian Games on the weekend compliment the ‘Enrol to Vote’ portal on the official ANC Australia website - [link=http://anc.org.au]www.anc.org.au[/link] - which allows Armenian-Australians to join the electoral role.
Similar grassroots activities are planned at upcoming cultural occasions such as the Armenian Cultural Festival, in addition to a door-to-door campaign and media blitz on community radio and print to target more senior immigrant Armenian-Australians that are yet to register to vote.
“At the conclusion of this comprehensive campaign, we will have bridged the gap between the estimated 1,000 eligible Armenian-Australians that are not on the electoral role, particularly in the contentious marginal seat of Bennelong,†added Mr. Nazloomian, indicating his committee has centred its sights on the upcoming Federal election.
ANC Australia takes this opportunity to thank the Homenetmen Regional Committee for their assistance with this project.
